London Sex Survey

Where would the London dating scene be without Time Out? As well as providing us with loads of great ideas for first-dates, and providing useful titbits to put on to our internet dating profiles to make us sound cultured, they've now released the results of a survey that reveals all there is to know about the capital's sex life. Hundreds of people from the London dating pool filled out a questionnaire, and here are the results...

When asked the age the age when the lost their virginity, the average result for women was just under seventeen, and for men, seventeen and a half.

And just how faithful are Londoners? A whopping 39% of men said that it 'didn't count' if they flirted with someone on an online dating site, whereas 79% of women disagreed and said that 'virtual infidelity' was unacceptable.

There were some interesting discrepancies when asked about the quantity of sex Londoners were getting. On average the male respondents said they got lucky 2.6 times a week, with women saying they had sex 3.2 times a week. I think there could be some porkies being told...

But when it comes to how often they would like to have sex, women averaged out at 5.9 times a week, and men... well what do you know, they want to be having sex 24.5 times a week! I always knew Londoners were a randy bunch.

And something for those of you on the adult dating scene - 44% of men labelled pornography an 'essential' part of their sex life, but only 14% of women felt the same way.

When asked how many sexual partners they have had, women responded with an average of 19, and men with an average of 26. However, over half of the respondents had had far fewer - between one and fourteen partners.

We've already established that a lot of men give themselves a free pass when it comes to flirting on internet dating sites, but how do they feel about monogamy? 50% of men consider it to be 'a fact of life', with a rather sweet 46% believing it enhances their life. Women returned similar results, with 55% believing it's a positive force in their life, and only 9% saying that it's out-dated.

So thank you, Time Out,  for giving us a peek into the bedroom habits of our fellow Londoners. Now, if you can extend the survey to the rest of the country, we could establish whether Londoners really are a kinkier bunch than their home county neighbours...personally, my money's on the suburbs for the really perverted stuff...
